Criminal Justice

Have you always been fascinated with criminal behavior? Turn that interest into a rewarding career in the dynamic criminal justice field.

The Criminal Justice program at Minnesota School of Business will provide you with an understanding of the theories underlying the three main components of the criminal justice system: law enforcement, judicial systems, and corrections within the context of social and political sciences. Methods and applications of these three areas will be emphasized throughout the coursework along with the intersections of their functions.

What you can do with this degree

Program graduates will be prepared for entry-level positions in a range of criminal justice positions, including:

  • Corrections Officer
  • Hearings and Release Officer
  • Special Investigations
  • Sentence to Service Crew Leader
  • Community Corrections Case Aide (similar duties to assistant probation officer)
  • Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) screening officer
  • Agencies monitoring offenders on probation and supervised release
  • Victim Advocacy
  • Private Investigator positions

Introduction to Criminal Justice

American criminal justice theories will be introduced to emphasize current practices within the context of contemporary social issues including community, juvenile and corporate environments.

Investigations

Modern theories and practices of criminal and private investigation will be presented that range from preliminary investigation to related communication and reporting functions to the final court actions. Through case study and analyses, you will explore investigation strategies and tactics designed to aid in evaluation of appropriate uses.

Behavior Science

Examines the criminal justice system through the lens of human behavior theories. Topics include:

  • Biological Theories of Crime and Criminal Behavior
