This course includes instruction in the history of medicine, health care team members and their area of specialization. Students will be introduced to the role and functions of a medical assistant. In addition, students will be introduced to medical law and ethics, patient rights, and medical records procedures. Additionally the course will introduce the roles of the three types of word parts in forming medical terms, define the commonly used prefixes, word roots and suffixes. Also students will study medical terminology of body planes, directions and cavities as well as terms related to cells, tissue and glands, and genetics.
The course will also teach students to identify the major functions and structures of the Skeletal system, describe the three types of joints, identify the medical specialists who treat disorders of the skeletal system, and understand terminology related to the pathology and diagnostic and treatment procedures of the skeletal system. |
