The Early Childhood Education program will provide you with an excellent introduction to a rewarding career working with young children. You will study interpersonal communications, childhood development, behavior management and program planning. In addition, you'll learn teaching strategies that use drama, math, science, play and arts and crafts. You'll receive First Aid and CPR certifications as well. As part of this program, you will observe experienced Early Childhood Educators in the field and then apply your newly developed skills during eight weeks of practicum.
After completion of the coursework, you must gain an additional 500 hours of field experience required for licensing. Upon completion of the first ECE module, you can apply for an assessment letter to become an Assistant through the Early Childhood Education Registry. As you train, you can also work or volunteer part-time to complete the required hours.
Employment opportunities in this field exist in day care centres, preschools, nursery schools, integrated day cares and family service centres. |
