Coast Guard: Like the other military branches the Coast Guard offers its members great opportunities to get a college education. Marine Corps: The purpose of the Marine Deployed Education program is to provide undergraduate level courses to afloat Marines, MCB Camp Pendleton and MCAS Cherry Point developed MOUs with academic institutions. Qualified Marines with the proper units provide the instruction. Courses are provided by Park University and Central Texas College.

Navy: The Navy has five Voluntary Education programs, all are part of the Navy's 5 Vector Model for career development.  Following is a summary of these five education support and other programs available to Navy personnel.

Reserves Friendly Schools

Reserves: REAP (Chapter 1607) is a Department of Defense/VA education benefit program designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national emergency (contingency operation)* as declared by the President or Congress.

Reserve Tuition Assistance

Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support: DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) is a DoD organization created to help Servicemembers pursue their educational goals and earn the degrees or certification they deserve while continuing to serve their country.

Educational Assistance and Benefits: The Department of Veterans Affairs has released the 2008-2009 DEA payment rates which go into effect on Oct. 1, 2008. The following guide will help you determine if you are eligible and how to apply for The Department of Veterans Affairs DEA program.

Spouse Assistance: The Career Advancement Accounts program provides assistance to military spouses seeking to gain the skills and credentials necessary to begin or advance their career. Career Advancement Accounts (CAA) covers the costs of training and education, enabling participants to earn a degree or credential in in-demand, portable fields in almost any community across the country. CAA can be used to pay up to $3,000 in fees for one year, and may be renewed for one additional year, for a total two-year account amount of up to $6,000 per spouse.

Veterans Assistance: VEAP is an educational assistance program that is available if you elect to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. The following is a summary of the VEAP.

Miltary Tuition Assistance: Is a benefit paid to eligible members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Congress has given each service the ability to pay up to 100% for the tuition expenses of its members.

On The Job Training Programs: If you are a veteran or currently in the guard or reserve, the On-The-Job Training (OJT) Program offers you an alternative way to use your VA (GI Bill) education and training benefits. The following is a summary of these GI Bill alternatives.

Learning to Use Your GI Bill: The GI Bill is an educational benefit earned by Active Duty, National Guard, and Selected Reserve service members.  This benefit was intended to help servicemembers and eligible veterans cover costs associated with getting training and an education.  Depending on a person’s status and eligibility, the GI Bill was structured with several programs each administered differently.
